Leading AI researchers now place Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), machines that reason and learn across domains at roughly human level, within the next 10 to 20 years. Whatever the exact date, the direction is settled. Tasks that can be automated will be. That prospect excites me more than it worries me.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Optimism alone won&#8217;t carry you, though. You&#8217;ll need sound tech fluency. Nobody has to code. But understanding how AI works, and how it interacts with people and organizations, is becoming part of every job.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What machines won&#8217;t replicate at the level your work demands are deeply human capabilities like sensemaking, judgment, creativity, collaboration, and ethical responsibility. I call them Human Power Skills. None of them is a fixed trait. Each one erodes without use and responds to deliberate training, the way fitness does.<\/p>\n<p>A concrete example: an AI can produce a restructuring analysis in four minutes. Deciding whether to act on it, and standing behind the consequences in front of your team, still belongs to a person. That second part is the real work.<\/p>\n<p>People who bring both together, sound tech fluency guided by strong Human Power Skills, are what I call HUMA leaders, the kind who get the most out of AI while keeping it under human authority. Through clear oversight and governance, humans stay in the driver&#8217;s seat, with the power to override any system that drifts beyond its limits.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve spent nearly three decades leading teams and coaching executives around the world. The past few years went into researching this question and distilling the answers into a framework. On June 23, it becomes a book.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Human Power Skills can be developed at any age and in any role. But you should get started.
