Leave Your EGO at the Door

Leave Your EGO at the Door

When we say “leave your ego at the door,” we are referring to the idea that one should check their sense of self-importance at the “door” before entering a situation or conversation. This means letting go of the need to be right, to be in control, or to be recognized for one’s accomplishments. Not easy, isn´t it?

However, adopting this attitude has several advantages: It allows for more effective communication and collaboration, as well as the ability to truly listen and consider others’ perspectives. It also promotes a humble and open-minded approach, which can lead to personal growth and development.

Here are five things for leaving your ego at the door which I try to practice as much as possible (and still learning…):

1. Reflect on your own biases and assumptions
2. Practice active listening
3. Be open to feedback
4. Show gratitude and give credit where it is due
5. Recognize that you don’t know everything and be open to learning from others

In summary, leaving your ego at the door is about helping others and yourself to grow and evolve. As the famous quote goes, “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”

What do you think?
